Lyrics

How I love to eat OATMEAL!  Oh, it is unsurpassed
'Cause it makes such a wholesome meal for me to break my fast
When the box is empty with no oatmeal left
It leaves me feeling so sad and bereft
I hold the box above the trash to drop it
When from the other room, my brother's voice at once cries, "STOP IT!"
He says, "Open up your eyes, take a look now--don't you see?
That empty oatmeal box is filled with possibility!"

<chorus>
He says, "Hey hey hey, Don't just throw it away
There might be something else that we
Could make from that today,"
He says, "Ooh, ooh, ooh--Here's the thing to do
You just take something old . . . make something new!"

I could use it to store things, like my ball and jacks
Or maybe a coil of string and some old thumb tacks
It could be a hideout for my army guys . . .
A cave where they interrogate the spies . . .
Or if you don't have something already planned
We could spend the afternoon making an awesome garbage band!
He says, "Grab those cans and bottles, and that pickle-less pickle jar
Oh, we can rock the house with our cereal box guitar!"

repeat chorus

instrumental break

Hey hey hey, Don't just throw it away
There might be something else that you
Could make from that today,
Ooh, ooh, ooh--Here's the thing to do
You just take something old . . .
Scrape off a little mold . . .
Just imagine and behold . . .
Make something new
A paper towel roll kazoo . . .
Or a tissue box shoe . . .
Coffee can stilts, too . . .
So many things you can do . . .
With imagination and some glue . . .
Make something new.

Lyrics

We took off on vacation To get some relaxation We headed for the sun and sand and sea The week went by so fast Vacation never seems to last As I waved goodbye I wished the beach Could come back home with me And much to my surprise I found My wish came true, for now you see I've got the itty bitty nitty gritty inside all my clothes I B N G in between my toes I B N G even up my nose It makes me say "Achoo!" and I don't know what to do! Whatever would you do if it were you? I tried to SHAKE it all out But there's always just a little more still there Took a shower to WASH it all off But I think somehow I washed even more back in my hair I've still got I B N G Inside all my pants I B N G itches worse than ants Every time I'm getting dressed It's like a crazy dance It's inside all my books And my shirts and socks and shoes My toothbrush and my toothpaste and my dental floss, too! It makes me say "Achoo!" and I don't know what to do! Whatever would you do if it were you? No, really . . . Whatever would you do if it were you? I'm not kidding . . . Whatever would you do if it were you?

Lyrics

That big ol’ maple tree, covered all with branches, Seemed to say, "You couldn't climb me if you had a million chances." I thought it might be right I felt a little queasy, As I walked up to the trunk, I gulped and said, "This won't be easy . . . " But I climbed a little at a time I checked each branch and made a plan Foot over foot, hand over hand . . . Now look at me! Hurray! Yippee! Just where I worked so hard to be— At the top of the maple tree! I just kept going Although I felt a bit distressed I know I'm growing, When I try hard to do my best And though it took some time— Minute after minute . . . Now it is done And I'm so proud to say, "I did it!" Though I am very young, it's true There are a lot of things I can do When I make up my mind, and stick to it Then the chances are quite good I'm going to do it On my first day of school I felt so scared inside me When I saw the room filled up with kids I tried to run and hide me Every one looked so weird And no one there did know me When I turned around, this girl came up And said, "My name's Naomi . . . " So I said, "Hi!" and winked my eye Made up my mind that I would stay, and asked her if she'd like to play Now the school year is at an end I look around the room again, and it is all filled up with friends! I wasn't always sure, I'm happy to admit it But it is done, and I'm so proud to say I did it!

Lyrics

The Tale of the Hasty Baker

There was a hasty baker
And he could hardly wait
To make a batch of cookies
And serve them on a plate
He mixed an egg, vanilla, butter,
Milk, brown sugar, baking powder . . .
He put them in the oven for a quarter of an hour
They came out burned and run together--
He forgot the FLOUR

Don't be so hasty baker
You should just slow down (slow down)
Look at your recipe
And check it carefully
Then your baking will be more respectable
And your cookies will taste so delectable!

Another time the baker
He rushed to make some bread
"I won't forget the flour this time"
He said inside his head . . .
So to the flour he added water
Kneaded in a little sugar
Put it in the oven and imagined how he'd feast . . .
It came out like a great big rock, 'cause
He forgot the YEAST

Don't be so hasty baker
You should just slow down (slow down)
Look at your recipe
And check it carefully
Then your baking will be more respectable
And your bread will be much more delectable!

Most things worth doing
Are worth putting in time
For cooking or for cleaning
Or for writing the right rhyme, for you might
Not be careful if you try to go too fast
But if you take your time then you just
Might make something that is going to last

So
Don't be so hasty baker
You should just slow down (slow down)
Look at your recipe
And check it carefully
Just use a little sense
Confirm all your ingredients
Then your baking will be more respectable
All the care you take will be detectable
Everything you make will be delectable!
